Endoscopy
Endoscopy is a wonderful diagnostic tool. Endoscopy allows the doctor to view inside the body without being overly invasive. The actual machine has a tube with a camera that is connected to a viewer (like a TV) and is inserted into a body opening (such as the mouth). Images of the internal area are displayed on a screen. During this exploration, biopsies can be done or in the case of a patient swallowing something they weren't supposed to, foreign bodies can be retrieved. Endoscopies do require anesthesia and a stay for the day in the clinic. |
