ICU (Intensive Care Unit)
Our intensive care unit (ICU) is a closely monitored area of the hospital. Patients that need critical care are placed in kennels that are in full view of our treatment area so they are under constant supervision. We have three built in kennels, 2 medium sized and 1 large, as well as a portable small incubator/oxygen tank for cats and smaller dogs. A common set up for patients in the ICU includes a warm water heating pad. There are usually also plenty of blankets to make the kennel as comfortable as possible. In cases where fluids are being given there is an infusion pump to deliver them at a set rate. Other equipment or medical care is available on an as needed basis. The ICU can be used for a variety of cases from an emergency that needs close observation to a patient who is recovering from anesthesia that requires special care. |
